“Cu nesci arrinesci.”
Join us for the cycling adventure of a lifetime.
Our 2017 Italian trip takes us to Sicily during the 100th anniversary of the Giro d’Italia. Included in our schedule of rides will be roadside viewing of a couple of stages, including an epic mountain stage.
Our Sicilian country estate is located outside of Catania, on the slopes of the active volcano, Mt Etna, peaking into the clouds above 10,000 feet. Surrounded by olive and citrus groves, the villa has a large saltwater pool to take a dive into, or to lounge around with a spritz.
What about the riding? There are plenty of meters of elevation to be gained when you stay at the base of a mountain. And plenty of cafés to stop at as well. Our routes will take us up Mt Etna, to the spectacular coastline, to the luxurious hills of Taormina, around the ancient architecture of Syracuse and to as many gelato and cannoli places as we can manage.
We like to embrace the sprit of Italy, balancing boosting your early summer mileage with plenty of time to soak in the vibe of a culture that eats and drinks with gusto.
Trip Price: $2600
(Guests who join us for both trips will receive 10% off)
Our base will be a beautiful, historic villa that we'll have all to ourselves for the duration of the trip. At the base of Mt Etna, close to the coast and near inland wine country, it's the perfect launch point for each day's rides.
The grounds of our villa are stunningly beautiful and offer a private swimming pool, fitness area, jacuzzi, pool table, and plenty of open space to relax and recover.
Each day, we'll have a planned route with options for cutting it short or, in some cases, adding an extra credit climb or loop. The riding will be as challenging as you like as the volcanic island of Sicily is known for its mixed terrain of switchbacks and ocean-front roads.
Early in the week we'll have the opportunity to ride out to view a stage of the 100th edition of the Giro d'Italia in person. Then later, we'll take on Mt Etna, a challenging climb for riders of any kind and we'll mix in some less intense rides through Sicily's unique, historic sites.
Once we've returned from our ride, showered and caught up on the day's Giro stage results we'll eat together, team style. Dinner will be prepared by a local chef, on the premises, and will feature some of the best of Sicilian cuisine and wine. It doesn't get better than this.
